Cejlon jest wyspą u południowych brzegów Indii, która interesowała mnie zawsze, z jednej strony jako dom Artura C. Clarka, z drugiej jako państwo o ustroju socjalistycznym. Interesowało mnie to dlatego, że moje wczesne dzieciństwo przypadło na lata rozmontowywania tego systemu w Polsce, więc i ambiwalentne odczucia w tym czasie wobec jego dalszej egzystencji gdzie indziej.
Na przedstawieniu na znaczku czterech środków transportu, samochodu, kolei i statku, z wieńczącym je samolotem (sylwetką najprawdopodobniej DC-4) statek jest ujęty dwiema datami, 1857 i 1957. Wydaje mi się, że chodzi o kolej, która choć uruchomiona kilka lat po 1857 r. na całej budowanej w tedy linii, właśnie w tym roku została niejako poczęta, poprzez przyjazd inżynierów angielskich i rozpoczęcie prac ziemnych.
Ceylon is an island south of coast of India, which interested me from the beginning, for being home to Arthur C. Clark at one hand, and also as socialistic state. I was interested in it, because my early childhood lasted durning dismanteling of this system in Poland, which gave me ambivalent feeling toward lasting of the system elsewhere.
On the representation of four means of transportation on stamp, a car, train, and ship, with airplane (most likely a DC-4) the ship is framed ba the dates 1857 and 1957. I thing this is due to anniversary of rail connection with, albeit was fully opened few years after 1857, was marked by the conception and arrival of the engineers and earthwork start.
